The Children's Blizzard of 1888

Location: Dvoracek Memorial Library, Wilber, Nebraska

The Children’s Blizzard of 1888 is a moving living history program that recounts the true story of children, teachers and homesteaders, caught in a sudden and deadly Great Plains storm. Through powerful storytelling, the program honors courage, loss, and resilience in one of America’s most tragic weather events.

 

The Great Rearrangement: From Crinoline to Bustle 1860-1890

Location: Fort Hartsuff,  Burwell, NE

Date: May 2, 2026
Time: 2:00pm-3:00pm

The Great Rearrangement, is a lively, fashion-forward living-history program that explores the evolution of the Victorian bustle—revealing how women used style, structure, and silhouette to shape identity, status, and society in the 19th century.

 

Valiant Warrioress, Women Soldiers of the Civil War

Location: Marysville, Ks. 

Date: June 6, 2026

Valiant Warrioress is a gripping living-history experience revealing the extraordinary women who defied expectation and stepped into the chaos of war. Through powerful storytelling, museum-quality garments, and striking historical authenticity, audiences witness courage, sacrifice, and resilience rarely told — where survival demanded daring, and bravery rewrote the rules of the past.

 

19th Century Children's Games

Location: Gage County Museum, Beatrice, Nebraska
Date: June 13, 2026

Time: 10:00am-12:00pm

Victorian & 19th-Century Children’s Games is a joyful, hands-on living history program that invites participants to play the games children enjoyed before modern entertainment. Through movement and laughter, audiences experience everyday childhood in the 1800s while learning how play connected families and communities.

 

Language of the Fan

Location: Geneva Library, Geneva Nebraska 
Date: June 20, 2026

Time: 2:00pm-4:00pm

Language of the Fan is a captivating living-history experience where elegance becomes intrigue and every subtle gesture carries meaning. Through vivid storytelling and authentic Victorian charm, audiences uncover the thrilling world of hidden messages, silent flirtations, and social codes spoken without a word. Then the experience becomes delightfully personal as visitors design and create their very own fans using the materials provided — transforming history into a hands-on encounter of beauty, mystery, and expression.

 

Woman Homesteaders

Location: St Anthony Catholic Church, Tecumseh, Nebraska
Date: October 17, 2026

Time: 11:30am-2:00pm

Women Homesteaders of Nebraska brings frontier history to life through the overlooked voices of women. This living history program reveals the daily realities, challenges, and quiet strength of the women whose work, endurance, and determination helped shape the Great Plains.

 

2026 America’s Semiquincentennial (250th Anniversary) events

Programs are tailored to audience age, venue, and educational goals.

 

The Bloomer Costume: Dress Reform and Women’s Freedom

Location: Homestead National Historical Park, Beatrice, Nebraska

Date: June 27, 2026

Time: 12:00pm-1:00pm

An engaging living-history program exploring how the radical bloomer costume became a symbol of women’s independence, mobility, and early dress reform—challenging Victorian fashion norms and helping pave the way for women’s rights.
