Over 20 years ago, when I first got into living history, I’ll admit—I cut a few corners with my undergarments, especially during those blazing hot Nebraska summers. I’d talk all day about how important historically accurate undergarments were, but let’s be honest, sometimes I skipped them. I convinced myself they weren’t always a big deal. I figured our foremothers were just being overly modest! I thought, “Who’s really going to notice what’s under my dress anyway?” Boy oh boy, was I wrong! As the video shows, every single piece of those undergarments actually served a purpose.

It’s little moments like these that remind me—when you’re chasing authenticity and professionalism, history has a way of throwing in some surprises (and a good laugh). No matter how much you plan, there’s always room for a bit of unplanned comedy to keep things interesting!
