Hands-On History for Schools
History. Science. Technology. Skills. All in one experience
Indian Creek Historical Fashions offers interactive school programs that combine history, science, technology, and traditional skills in memorable learning experiences.
Perfect for Pioneer Days, Social Studies Days, STEM activities, homeschool groups, enrichment programs, and special school events.
Natural Dyeing
Students discover how people created color before modern dyes using plants, roots, bark, and other natural materials. This hands-on program connects history with science as students explore how heat, water, and natural ingredients transformed cloth and fiber.
Connections: History • Science • Plants • Chemistry • Textiles
Treadle Sewing
Using working antique treadle sewing machines, students explore the technology that changed clothing production and everyday life. They learn how foot power creates mechanical motion and how families once made, repaired, and reused clothing.
Connections: History • STEM • Simple Machines • Technology • Inventions
Dutch Oven Cooking
Students discover how families cooked before modern kitchens and electricity. Demonstrations explore fire, coals, temperature control, historic foods, and the skills needed to prepare meals on the frontier.
Connections: History • Science • Heat & Energy • Measurement • Foodways
Dutch oven programs require an appropriate outdoor area and school approval because live fire and hot equipment are used.
Create a Living History Day
Programs can be offered individually or combined with other school experiences to create a Pioneer Day, History Day, Social Studies event, or rotating activity day.
Students might try historic games, use a treadle sewing machine, discover natural dyes, watch Dutch oven cooking, and experience the stories and skills of the past.
Your students don’t have to travel to history.
I bring history to them.
